MMA (Mastitis-Metritis-Agalaktie-Complex)

MMA is a bacterial disease that is widespread in sows.

Inflammation of the cervix (Metritis), mammary gland inflammation and milk deficiency occur. MMA occurs shortly after farrowing and is usually caused by Colibakterien in the gut or streptococcus.

By MMA, the sow has a milk deficiency about 24-48 hours after birth, accompanied by fever over 39.5 C as well as disturbed general and purulent vaginal discharge. In addition, the sow is usually firmly in the abdominal position, because the suckle of the piglet is very painful for the animal. Not all symptoms must occur at the same time.
